IF
If I could speak with no fear of reprisalReligious leaders would hear of exclusion, and
Political leaders would hear of inclusion.
If I could force people to listen
Employers would concede the violence of greed, and
Congregations would honor the divinity of equality.
If I could speak honestly
Misogynists would learn that we disagree, and
Racists would learn they’re not welcome here.
If I could openly share what’s in my heart
Ministers would see hidden suffering, and
Relatives would share in tears of distress.
If I could be me, I would speak.
